Don’t talk about religion, says Blogger, Wordpress & UN

Blogger, Wordpress, UN logos

First they blocked Ibn Khattab’s blog. Now they blocked the Invisible Pink Hollow Prophet’s blog.

Their message: don’t talk about religion.

I actually support this stand. Here’s why:

Think about it. Why are Middle East and Asian countries trying to get the United Nations to adopt a resolution that will outlaw criticism of any religion?

Think about all the civil wars and fighting going on there. Muslims and Christians at each other’s throats in Nigeria. Shiites and Sunnis murdering each other in Pakistan. And so on.

The fact is that all religions are based on the premise that it is absolutely right and all others are wrong. In other words, a religion cannot propagate itself without criticizing and creating hatred and inciting violence towards all religions other than itself.

So these nations are indirectly and quite shrewdly working towards only one thing: stopping the propagation of any religion and promoting secularism and a civil code of life for all humans regardless of their beliefs and lifestyles.

Why?

Well, for example, I may hold strong Islamic beliefs, but others who are of a different opinion will think I am nuts and will demand to stick to their own beliefs and choices of other religions.

In other words, there is no absolute truth; truth itself is subjective and relative, depending on the individual person’s world views.

Therefore, the message Blogger, Wordpress and the United Nations seem to be giving is that religion should be strictly kept in the personal domain where it rightly belongs; that it should not be brought into the public domain because propagating it would amount to “incitement of hatred and violence” towards all religions, and modern humanity do not allow incitement of hatred and violence towards any person or group of individuals. That is against democracy and human rights and therefore propagation of religion do not amount to freedom of expression but rather an abuse of free expression.

This amounts to giving us the message that we should not talk or propagate religion in the public domain. They are saying that each person, depending on his/her choice of religion, should read their choice of Holy Scripture and follow their religion in secret at home.

This also rules out discussing any debate and discussions by “scholars” because debate and discussion can only occur on a public platform.

If reading the Quran quietly inside my own room without anyone else knowing about it is the only way to save humanity from itself, then so be it. If that is the only way which can keep one human being from going at another human being’s throat, then we might as well resign ourselves to this decision.

Peace.

  2. Freedom of religion is a taboo subject in a dictatorship like the Maldives. It is a basic human right in most countries and mandated by the UN. The devil that would censor discussion of religion opposes God. A world dictatorship under antichrist is his plan. Submit yourselves therefore unto God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

There is absolute truth. Almighty God knows what is truth, and he reveals it to men. Jesus says, You shall know the truth, and the truth will make you free.

Most people that propagate religion do not use violence and hatred. Every farmer that raises vegetables does not abuse the land. Should therefore all farmers be banned because some are irresponsible?

Churches, synagogues, mosques and temples all teach religion. Just close them all down, and burn every Bible and Quran, so that cowards can keep their faith (or lack thereof) only to themselves.

  4. i disagree. there should be freedom to propagate religions…but without violence and incitement of violence. and this resolution will not work the way you assumed. it is made to ‘protect’ religions and give more power to religious authorities around the world. the victims will be freethought and science to some extent. there should be limits to this freedom though. many international terrorist networks abused this freedom of west and operated from europe and america instead of middle eastern or asian countries. UK is a good example(abu hamza? qatada? abu isa?)…and theyve paid for this mistake. this is just bullshit. lets all talk about religions…and let others talk against religions as well. punish the violent from both sides…dont treat ideas like human beings…coz they are not. religions are not people. they dont get insulted. they are not responsible for the crimes of their followers, they are cannot be hurt…so why the hell would they need to be protected.??

maybe some religions may die with time. so if you wanna protect it…archive all the mythology and shit and bury it in a time capsule. but are we doing the same with cultures and languages? well.. some countries do…others dont!

personally…ive tried to stop discussing religion. but how can i when all i hear 24/7 where ever i maybe is.. religion religion religion. they wont stop. why should i stop?….ok maybe i should. im for peace. but they… they are for peace except when religion demands them to torture or kill people.now i dont want that. so i try to keep a good balance.

    here is the resolution: http://www.undemocracy.com/A-RES-62-154

here is an interesting article about it by christopher hitchens:

  5. I disagree. It’s purely a difference in philosophy. You say, “there is no absolute truth; truth itself is subjective and relative, depending on the individual person’s world views.” Truth is not relative, it’s universal. Everyone holds similar truths, they just have different means to achieve those ideals. For example, its universal that killing of innocent people is wrong– there’s no interpretation there. Now, there is some gray area when it comes to petty differences, but I don’t believe that religion is a petty difference. Not everyone is religious, but everyone holds their own spirituality, even if that means they are atheist, Mormon, Islam, etc.

Now, as far as expressing different points of view in religion. In my country, it would literally be IMPOSSIBLE to stop the expression of religion. People disagree on EVERYTHING! Why not take away political discussion because that might lead to disagreements (which is very apparent here in the US). People are going to fight. It’s okay.

“If reading the Quran quietly inside my own room without anyone else knowing about it is the only way to save humanity from itself, then so be it.” Humanity doesn’t need saving. Yes, religion allows individuals to be saved, but humanity as a whole cannot be saved– it is what it is. You can change humanity, but you cannot ’save’ humanity.

I believe that competition and disagreements are the way to a better community. If you’re right, prove it. When it comes to religion, you know you’re right and they know they’re right. It’s not about being right when it comes to religion; to me, it’s about following what you believe.

Violence is not okay; speech is.

  6. Wait a minute. Is opposing extremism, whether in Islam, christian or any other faith is inciting hatred against religion??

Extremism and religion are quite different things, don’t you think? or does it fall in the same category?
