Politicians, nothing more
Posted By Hilath
I’m extremely disappointed with MP Afrasheem even though he has been a well-meaning good friend to some of my relatives.
If people change colors so often, solely depending on the direction of blowing political winds, do we really know who the real person is?
Being partisan for the sake of it, even to the extent that your words, your actions can harm ordinary people’s welfare – how does that benefit the people?
When DRP’s Afrasheem took a moderate stand, before MDP came to power, MDP against all good sense did everything it can to discredit Afrasheem and embraced extremists, the Adhaalath Party. This is the biggest mistake MDP ever committed. Look what harm this unholy alliance between MDP and Adhaalath in the current government is doing to the social structure of Maldives.
But now that President Nasheed recently spoke against including amputation and the death penalty in the revised Penal Code, not for religious but for other reasons, Afrasheem has switched his personality and taken the other stand: how can he justify the inclusion of amputation and death penalty when nothing has really changed in our judiciary, when our judiciary is still infested with corrupt judges and magistrates? How many Maldivian families are still suffering due to loss of their homes and property due to corrupt judges?
Imagine a system where the courts do not depend on forensic evidence but rather “trust” the “testimony” of so-called “eye witnesses” when some Maldivians are so hypocritical and selfish they wouldn’t think twice before swearing lies even under oath with their hands on the Quran if some damn rich criminal will give them a bribe.
How can Afrasheem justify giving a free hand to rich perverts who can produce “eye witnesses” with their financial will, and thus be in a position of power to destroy and take the lives of their opponents or people they don’t like?
We may as well overthrow this democracy and bring back a dictator by whose blessing he will decide who shall live and who shall die in Maldives.
One of my friends said that Afrasheem’s recent chameleon characteristics boils down to “party politics.”
“MDP was originally for a Presidential system of government but when the DRP stood for the same, MDP had no choice but to support a Parliamentary system”, he said.
No choice? What the hell are we talking about?
Suppose, for example, say that MDP today took a stand against child abuse, does that mean that the DRP has to take a stand to promote child abuse?
Or for instance, if the DRP today stood for women’s rights, does it mean that the MDP “will be forced” to fight against women’s rights because there is “no choice”?
What nonsense are we talking about! Where did common sense go?
Isn’t the role of politicians to act in ways that will benefit the people?
The thing that is very wrong here is that in Maldives, most politicians are just that. Nothing more.
The humanitarian factor is lost. I wouldn’t necessarily blame partisan politics for it. Rather what we are seeing are selfish men (in all political parties with no exceptions) who enter politics to gain power and get a slice of Maldives’ riches and resources.
They don’t really care about us.

Politicians derive power by influencing the lives of ordinary people. The system inherently attracts people who are power hungry. Only very few politicians do actually work towards betterment of the people. I say lets give them less and less power to wield over our lives.
Hilath,
there are so many people like this. Look at DO Sappe, a family friend of Maumoon. Go to family gatherings together. Look at him now. Read my article

You are doing a great job Hilath. Keep it up. Please some how refer to my article if there is a valid point there. I hope there is.
cheers.

Thanks Bodukatheeb. You have a great website too :)
Hilath, you still seem to just lay in wait for any opportunity to blast at anyone religious. Yes, Afrasheem is a moderate. And, to me, his explanations in various matters are very easy to understand. All he did was to speak for Shariah Law. And it is his duty to speak for the implementation of Shariah Law. For political or any other cause, he just did his job.
Anni is really stupid if he is talking against the Shariah Law. If you believe or not, the problems we see will be solved if we fully implement this true form of justice commanded by our Creator. Are we thinking that we know better than our Creator?
The problem is that, we implement it in some areas and do not implement it in other areas. I condemn Anni for speaking against the way of justice Commanded by Allah.
What you seek is a benevolent dictator. A strong leader who cares for our Race and People, one who will use the State for what it should be; a vessel to protect the Race. A leader that will not allow any transgressions to be carried out against the People – one who will do anything to protect the Race.
@Amir: It seems that you have never suffered the criminal injustice of the so-called “Maldivian Judiciary”, thus you can glibly deny all knowledge and pledge your allegiance to a weak system of law that, in the wrong hands, can bring forth an era of suffering and injustice.
So be it.
Bring your Shari’a law. Bring your foreign control onto our land. But when the blood of the innocent is split upon our Fatherland, when your banners of injustice are solidly planted upon our soil, know this; We will fight you.
You will know the meaning of shock and awe.
We’ve toppled a superpower’s grasp on our Nation once; we can do it again.
Hilath, please make sure that the Maldivian politicians read this article of yours.
Almost everyone in Maldives seems to be busy in proving which PARTY is better, which PARTY has the majority, which PARTY is stronger.
The slogan of the day seems to be “MY PARTY IS THE BEST, THE OTHERS ARE BULLSHIT” and they’ll do anything to prove it.
And at stake is a whole NATION. No one is bothered about what happens to the COUNTRY, to the PEOPLE.
We seem to be forgetting that parties were made for developing the whole nation, not as a means of proving “See, I am always right and others always wrong. So I need to be the most powerful and richest!”
Come on people! Keeping of a concubine is not a political issue where two parties should keep adamantly arguing over and over again, in the mean while forgetting that the children of the nation, for whose betterment their parties were made, are being deprived of health, education and happiness.
Before I loved the word “party” – Joy, celebration, get-to-gathers, good food, laughter….heheh.
But now I hate that word – power-hungry lunatics, riots, fights.
Hilath, tell me things are going to be better. I’m praying for it.
