“Angels and Demons” satisfying at many levels
Posted By HilathIt might still be too early to declare what are the best films of this year but I have to say that so far this year, Angels and Demons, based on Dan Brown’s another popular novel, is definitely one of the best films, and it delivered in many respects.
I don’t know why there is a clean copy of this movie available just after only one month since its cinematic release. Usually we have to wait around 3 or more months. Watchmen, which was released on 3 March, has still not been released to DVD.
Angels and Demons is far more satisfying than the The Da Vinci Code though both were directed by acclaimed director Ron Howard. Perhaps, The Da Vinci Code is more interesting as a novel because it is mostly to do with unravelling (supposedly) religious and historical mysteries.
Unlike that, A&D is, how should I say, more “movie material”: the plot is a mixture of serial killer, suspense, mystery, detective, and action thriller all wrapped into one, which makes it conventional, but in the hands of a gifted director like Howard, he manages to pull it off beautifully with balance!
On top of that, exquisite photogarphy and slick editing made the two-hour film visually appealing and fast-paced.
The mixture of religion and science was interesting. Not to mention the almost apocalyptic ending, with another “twist” added at the VERY end.
The cast was generally good though Tom Hanks did not stand out as well as Ewan McGregor, who surprisingly, because of his priest clothes, looked as if he had just stepped off from the set of Star Wars directly to this film’s set! (When you think about it Star Wars too has those underlying religious tones: Anakin Skywalker is born of a virgin mother).
Perhaps Tom Hanks is better at involving audiences as an actor in slow-paced engagers like Robert Zemeckis’ Castaway and Steven Spielberg’s The Terminal. When it comes to comparing character-driven action movies, for me Matt Damon still stands out more in The Bourne Ultimatum.

Couldn’t agree more.
One of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time !
The pace was perfect and the cinematography was beautiful.
I literally went “wow” several times through out the movie.
I’d say this one ” beat the hell out ” of the Da Vinci Code .
Very, very satisfied.
I thought it was one of the most childish movies I had seen this year.
